# Public tables

> Make a table public to share it with a link, without anyone signing in.

A table is private until you make it public. A private table can be read by your workspace, its agents and its [API tokens](/docs/guides/api-tokens/).

Making a table public gives it two links, and anyone who has one can read the latest version without signing in:

- **A page for people:** the table to read, with each column's summary, to sort, search and filter.
- **An [API](/docs/guides/table-apis/) for programs:** the table's usual URL, which now needs no token.

To make a table public:

- An agent calls `share_table`, and gives you the link. This needs a connection allowed to write.
- In the app, use the table's **Share** panel.
- In Python, call `rho.share("research/competitors")`.

What it shows and what it doesn't:

- A public table isn't listed anywhere: people need the link to find it.
- The links show this table only: not your other tables, nor its history. Older versions stay private.
- Nobody can change the table through its links.

To stop sharing, open the **Share** panel in the app:

- **Make it private:** the page stops working and the API needs a token again, at once. Making it public again brings back the same links.
- **Replace the links:** if a link got out, this makes new ones, and the old ones stop working for good. Programs that read the old API URL need the new one, even with a token.

Deleting a table stops its links too. Bringing it back from the trash brings back its links and whether it was public.
